For the Prix de Rome Award I created a video installation centering on a downwards movement. The piece begins with a wall-sized projection of a blue-green space. At first, it's like looking down at a forest's leafy canopy. There is no horizon. While you look at the picturesque scene, the video projector gradually moves forward, over a white rails that extend from the white line in the image that runs from the lower edge of the frame. The cadre of the projection shrinks and you suddenly discover that what you thought was a forest is actually water. The pale shape of a little boat is bobbing on the waves. When the projector reaches the wall, you see that the artist is pulling in the camera connected to the white line. The picture fades to black and the projector slides back as though preparing for its next flight.
